| 2 | Již jsem [to] řekl a předpovídám [znovu], jako když jsem byl přítomen podruhé, [tak] i nyní, když jsem nepřítomen, píši těm, kteří předtím padli do hříchu, i všem ostatním, že až znovu přijdu, nebudu [nikoho] šetřit. | I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare: |
| 3 | Jelikož hledáte důkaz, že ve mně mluví Kristus (který vůči vám není slabý, ale je ve vás mocný, | Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you. |
| 4 | neboť ačkoliv byl ukřižován ze slabosti, žije z Boží moci; vždyť i my jsme v něm slabí, ale budeme s ním žít z Boží moci vůči vám), | For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you. |
| 5 | zkoušejte sami sebe, zda jste ve víře, sami sebe prověřujte. Neznáte snad sami sebe, že je ve vás Ježíš Kristus? (Pokud ovšem nejste zavrženi.) | Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? |
| 6 | Doufám, že poznáte, že my nejsme zavrženi. | But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. |
| 7 | Modlím se k Bohu, abyste nedělali nic zlého - ne [proto,] abychom se my ukázali [jako] osvědčení, ale abyste vy dělali to, co je dobré, a my [abychom] byli jako zavržení. | Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. |
| 8 | Nezmůžeme přece nic proti pravdě, ale [jen] pro pravdu. | For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. |
| 9 | Radujeme se, když my jsme slabí, ale vy silní; a modlíme se také za to, abyste [přišli k] dokonalosti. | For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection. |
| 10 | Tyto věci píši během své nepřítomnosti proto, abych až budu přítomen, nemusel jednat přísně podle té moci, kterou mi Pán dal k budování a ne k boření. | Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. |
| 11 | Závěrem, bratři, buďte zdrávi. Spějte k dokonalosti, povzbuzujte se, mějte jednu mysl, žijte v pokoji a Bůh lásky a pokoje bude s vámi. | Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. |
| 12 | Pozdravte se navzájem svatým polibkem. Pozdravují vás všichni svatí. | Greet one another with an holy kiss. |
| 13 | Milost Pána Ježíše Krista, Boží láska a společenství Ducha Svatého s vámi všemi. Amen. | All the saints salute you. |
