Vers | English: Douay-Rheims | English: King James Version |
| Give glory to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. | Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. |
| Let them say so that have been redeemed by the Lord, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy: and gathered out of the countries. | Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise? |
| From the rising and the setting of the sun, from the north and from the sea. | Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times. |
| They wandered in a wilderness, in a place without water: they found not the way of a city for their habitation. | Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation; |
| They were hungry and thirsty: their soul fainted in them. | That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance. |
| And they cried to the Lord in their tribulation: and he delivered them out of their distresses. | We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. |
| And he led them into the right way: that they might go to a city of habitation. | Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. |
| Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men. | Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. |
| For he hath satisfied the empty soul, and hath filled the hungry soul with good things. | He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. |
| Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death: bound in want and in iron. | And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. |
| Because they had exasperated the words of God: and provoked the counsel of the most High: | And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left. |
| And their heart was humbled with labours: they were weakened, and their was none to help them. | Then believed they his words; they sang his praise. |
| Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses. | They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel: |
| And he brought them out of darkness, and the shadow of death; and broke their bonds in sunder. | But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. |
| Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men. | And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. |
| Because he hath broken gates of brass, and burst the iron bars. | They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD. |
| He took them out of the way of their iniquity: for they were brought low for their injustices. | The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram. |
| Their soul abhorred all manner of meat: and they drew nigh even to the gates of death. | And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked. |
| And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses. | They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image. |
| He sent his word, and healed them: and delivered them from their destructions. | Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass. |
| Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men. | They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; |
| And let them sacrifice the sacrifice of praise: and declare his works with joy. | Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea. |
| They that go down to the sea in ships, doing business in the great waters: | Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. |
| These have seen the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. | Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: |
| He said the word, and there arose a storm of wind: and the waves thereof were lifted up. | But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD. |
| They mount up to the heavens, and they go down to the depths: their soul pined away with evils. | Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness: |
| They were troubled, and reeled like a drunken man; and all their wisdom was swallowed up. | To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands. |
| And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he brought them out of their distresses. | They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead. |
| And he turned the storm into a breeze: and its waves were still. | Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them. |
| And they rejoiced because they were still: and he brought them to the haven which they wished for. | Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed. |
| Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men. | And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore. |
| And let them exalt him in the church of the people: and praise him in the chair of the ancients. | They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: |
| He hath turned rivers into a wilderness: and the sources of water into dry ground: | Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips. |
| A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. | They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them: |
| He hath turned a wilderness into pools of water, and a dry land into water springs. | But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works. |
| And hath placed there the hungry; and they made a city for their habitation. | And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. |
| And they sowed fields, and planted vineyards: and they yielded fruit of birth. | Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, |
| And he blessed them, and they were multiplied exceedingly: and their cattle he suffered not to decrease. | And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. |
| Then they were brought to be few: and they were afflicted through the trouble of evils and sorrow. | Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. |
| Contempt was poured forth upon their princes: and he caused them to wander where there was no passing, and out of the way. | Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance. |
| And he helped the poor out of poverty: and made him families like a flock of sheep. | And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them. |
| The just shall see, and shall rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop their mouth. | Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand. |
| Who is wise, and will keep these things: and will understand the mercies of the Lord? | Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. |
| Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:
| And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
| He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.
| Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.
| Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD. |
