Vers | English: Douay-Rheims | English: King James Version |
| The praise of a canticle for David. He that dwelleth in the aid of the most High, shall abide under the protection of the God of Jacob. | LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. |
| He shall say to the Lord: Thou art my protector, and my refuge: my God, in him will I trust. | Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. |
| For he hath delivered me from the snare of the hunters: and from the sharp word. | Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men. |
| He will overshadow thee with his shoulders: and under his wings thou shalt trust. | For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. |
| His truth shall compass thee with a shield: thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night. | Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up. |
| Of the arrow that flieth in the day, of the business that walketh about in the dark: of invasion, or of the noonday devil. | In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth. |
| A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand: but it shall not come nigh thee. | For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled. |
| But thou shalt consider with thy eyes: and shalt see the reward of the wicked. | Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. |
| Because thou, O Lord, art my hope: thou hast made the most High thy refuge. | For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. |
| There shall no evil come to thee: nor shall the scourge come near thy dwelling. | The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. |
| For he hath given his angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways. | Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. |
| In their hands they shall bear thee up: lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. | So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. |
| Thou shalt walk upon the asp and the basilisk: and thou shalt trample under foot the lion and the dragon. | Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants. |
| Because he hoped in me I will deliver him: I will protect him because he hath known my name. | O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. |
| He shall cry to me, and I will hear him: I am with him in tribulation, I will deliver him, and I will glorify him. | Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. |
| I will fill him with length of days; and I will shew him my salvation. | Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. |
| And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. |
